Hello everyone,
We are now the proud owners of a little girl Beagle, we named Biscuit. We've had her about a week, and she's doing great! She is 7 1/2 weeks old, and is almost completely black and white. Here is a picture:

Neither my husband or I had dog's growing up, so we're not sure what we're doing really...ha! We do have three kids though, so that should count for something right? I KNOW I'll have lots of questions, but I'll try not to drive you all too insane.

check your local pet stores and see if they offer anything.

Welcome to BW! Biscuit is adorable -- I love her name. She looks very comfy snuggled up in her blankie. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif We have several members with new puppies -- take a look at the "discussion" section and you'll find lots of good tips. There are also lots of members with seniors, like me with my 12 year old, who love to see puppy pictures so post away!

Howdy  Welcome to beagle World. Don't expect Biscuit to remain Black and White as she grows older. Lot's of good advice is can be had by asking questions in the general discussion area. Once she gets her initial round of shots, pupply socialization is a good thing. When she gets a little older (Bout the time she is rid of her baby teeth) Obdedience school is a great idea. Obedience school is more for the owner than the pooch though both will benefit.

Beagles are a breed which was bred for independant thinking so they will evaluate requests, with a herd dog or guard dog we would call them commands /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif Treats (Bribes) Work!

Beagles were also bred to be very pack cooperative and you will be Biscuit's pack so she will want to please. Praise works!

Praise and treats work with beagles, scolding does not!

Beagles are very intelligent dogs but because of their independant nature are not ranked high in comparison to herd dogs. Those of us with a long beagle history dismiss that as "human bias" since getting a beagle to do what you want takes much more effort than say a border collie.

They are ruled by their nose so containment and recall are the two most worrisome parts of having a beagle.

I'm sure as you have questions, you can get good advice in General Discussion Section.

Welcome again to Beagle World.

Hello to you and Biscuit!

She really is cute.

Like Judy and Sandy, my Henry was an adult rescue so I also get my puppy fix here at BW.

Glad to see somebody else from Virginia. I'm in Roanoke...a transplant from New Orleans.

Please give little Biscuit a rub on her puppy-belly.

Welcome! My Maggie was also my first dog. I got lots of support and great suggestions from this group. I strongly agree with the puppy socialization class and some obedience training suggested in previous posts. The puppy stage was a challenge but well worth the work. Maggie is just over a year and is a great companion and source of much laughter and fun for our whole family. Your baby is a cutie. Take lots of pictures. I took lots of video but not enough photos when Maggie was a baby.

Hi guys! Biscuit is soooo cute! We're in the same boat in that we are first time puppy parents, lol! You've gotten through the first week, though, and I wish you a lifetime of wonderful Biscuit memories!
