This is Heidi, the B.O.N.E.S. beagle I fostered from November, 2008 thru May, 2009. The before picture shows her at 82 lbs when we first got her; the after picture was taken at B.O.N.E.S. annual Beagle Bash where we saw her at the end of September with her forever family, and she is down to just around 50 lbs.

WOW! How can someone allow their dog to be so heavy? How did that happen?

That's great to see her in better shape!

She had an abusive/neglectful owner (before she went into rescue) who crated her 24/7 and fed her (all the wrong things of course) to keep her quiet. The sad thing is that this is what they did to her in just three short years. However, because she was so young, that worked in her favor as the weight came off and she didn't run into any extra serious health issues.

Thank goodness she was rescued, that story (pre-rescue) just breaks my heart!
