Okay, I am a little panicked.....

I'm giving the boys their heart work meds, and watching very closely that they take it and holding the other back...but somehow Casie dropped it, and Cobi picked it up...I think...can't be sure. But as Casie was searching the floor for it, I am thinking that is what happened. So if Cobi who takes 26 - 50 lb meds takes another 11 - 25 lb tablet...do I get very worried and call the vet for an overdose. And since I can't be sure about Casie, do I give him another pill. Oh, bother, I knew something like this was going to happen, and it did. Why didn't I kennel them and give them their pill that way? Anyone have ideas?

I'll be waiting....trying to remain calm.

Last month, Lucky ate a package of them. Four were in the package. I called the vet and they said not to worry unless he was acting sick. He acted a little drunk for a few hours, but apparently that is normal.

A few months ago my hubby put down some ant killer stuff in the backyard and we caught Rocky enjoying a mean off it off the ant mound. We were really worried and called the company that made the ant killer. Apparently it was not that dangerous to dogs unless they ate the whole bag and Rocky was fine.

I would say either call the heartworm meds company or call your vet. My guess is that they will be fine, but it's always good to check.

I'd say don't worry either way. I don't think that one month without the med is going to hurt Casie even if he missed his. I doubt seriously at Cobi's weight that an extra dosage will hurt him either, but if you are too worried..give poison control a call.

AT one point in time, Chipper, our first beagle was the ONLY dog listed in the Poison Control in Aberdeen. He had eaten some immodium for people --- stops diarhea (SP)...but they took if VERY seriously -- good pet people. The last time I called them about Casie or Cobi, I got the call the vet this is for people only. (I think they were cat people)
SO Poison Control in our area won't take animal calls.
Not good!

Update: Interceptor for heart worm, actually, not according to the manufacturer's directions is really good for 6 - 7 weeks. And if you have a small or younger animal...maybe longer, you could try every other week according to the people I talked to yesterday.

Vet said, Cobi was big enough to handle the double dose, he won't have heartworms that's for sure. Casie we wait 4 days and then give him HIS dose, with Cobi in his kennel. Poor vet, almost died laughing since I am forever calling and saying, tell me not to panick. I love my vet, he handles moms very well. Now we have to take them out for a worming treatment -- I hope it's a pill in 12 days --- cause of the Poo eating thing...but the vet laughed at that one too, he said, with this winter, he thinks the dogs are thinking they are starving and he's handing out a lot of worming treatments for this same thing.

Darn beagles --- OH he did ask me if I wanted a lower maintainence dog? HUH? Do they make that kind?

yet another set of grey hairs thanks to my kids.
