How do you know if your beagle has a cold? She is still recovering from her colitis, she started her diarriah back up again last night. I am not sure how to tell if she has a fever. But you know that inverse sneeze that beagles do sometimes? She keeps doing it, and is sometimes sneezing afterwards. Also sometimes when she walks around or when you lift her, she sounds like her nose is full of snot, she like, gargles or what not....

Amber: I would suggest you give your vet a call, especially since the diarrhea started again. You wouldn't want to risk the chance of something more serious than a cold (if that is, indeed, what Amber has on top of the colitis). Re fever: you can take your beagle's temp with a children's rectal thermometer but it does take two humans to do this -- one to firmly, but gently, hold the pup and the other to insert the thermometer. As I recall, a dog's normal temp is between 101 and 102. (You can't go by a dry nose -- my Maggie almost always had a dry nose.)

I would agree with giving the vet a call regarding the diarrhea. As far as the snotty sound, Daisy almost always sounds like that. We even had her sinuses x-rayed a couple months ago but they couldn't find anything wrong. We chalked her's up to allergies.

Hope your pup feels better soon!

I agree on a vet call. The diarrhea again is worrrysome and the breathing noise bears looking into imho. One of my bridge beagles was being her totally silly goose self and was sleeping on her back. For whatever reason she sneezed, coughed and threw up. Unfortunately she was still on her back and half asleep and she inhaled the vomit! Pneumonia was the result.
