Hi, Max and I are new to the forum and wanted to say hello. Max is a 12 year old Beagle dog who loves chasing rabbits, food and socialising. Yesterday he had a play date with a potential new Gal Pal, Willow, who we found through Beagle Rescue Victoria. I'm looking forward to meeting lots of fellow Beagle fans and sharing Beagle stories.

to BW! I love the photo of Max you posted in the gallery. He is quite handsome. I am owned by a senior pup, Maggie, who just turned 13. Does potential gal pal mean that you are thinking of adopting Willow? I am curious how Max handled the play date. My Mags would definitely not appreciate a new member of the family at this point in her life -- she is way too used to being the queen bee!

Hello Judy/Maggie,
Initially the play-date didn't start well as we had both dogs in the house and Willow was still on her lead. After a few sniffs it turned into growls and gnashing of teeth...not a great start. We put Willow outside to relax and Max soon calmed down too while we waited for the Beagle rescue experts to arrive. Max then announced he wanted out by creating a huge trail from the couch to the back doors!!! He then ended up in the laundry - in disgrace. The Beagle Rescue girls arrived and advised us to let both dogs out without any human intervention. Next thing we knew he was giving Willow a guided tour of the yard and they became fast friends.
She's coming for a sleep over next week and then a two week trial period after that! So yes we are looking to adopt as her people are moving to Perth and have a young child who is a bit much for her. Max is 12 so we're taking things slowly as like Maggie he is used to being centre of attention.
I'm about to check out Maggie's photos.

A big welcome to BW. Max looks a grand chap. I hope all goes well during the stop over trial and you are able to adopt Willow.
Where abouts are you in Australia?

Hi everyone...wow, we're feeling very welcome with all these replies.
The countdown to Willow's sleepover is on...I bought a 13kg bag of Royal Canin light today, a bit heavy to carry but I know there'll be no chance of running out.
Willow is 7 so I'm hoping they will get along really well as Max is a bit over puppies.
We live in Melbourne, Victoria in the outer South Eastern Suburbs. It is a new estate that is still developing so there are lots of places to go for long walks - there are lots of rabbits to but I tend not to let Max off the lead anymore since I learned about the connection between a Beagle nose and Beagle ears!!
I'll post a photo of Willow - I didn't take it - it's from her profile on Beagle Rescue.
I will keep you posted on the success of the playdate/sleepover.

Well, for those who have been keeping an eye out on the Max and Willow story it didn't go quite as well as hoped.
They walk together beautifully and they got along fine in the yard, but if I went out there, there was too much competition and fights ensued. Willow was a obviously trying to assert herself in the pecking order so sadly her family will have to keep looking for a new home for her, perhaps one without another dog.
As for Max, I think he is quite happy being a solo beagle.

Welcome to BW to you, Max and future pal Willow. Max is a very handsome gentleman--what a wonderful face!! And Willow is a pretty girl.
I have a question: Is Oz sort of a nickname for Australia? Just wondering.
