Goobers time has run-out!

Born on 12 April 1992, he has been the healthiest & longest
living beagle to date! But, saturday morning he was stricken
with the same symptoms that my first beag Snapper died from!
Goober had arthrits as well but they also had calcifcation of
the spine. Like Snapper... Goober awoke to paralized rear legs
and the only hope is in a cocktail of vitamin E & lecithin &
500 to 1000mg of ester c & nux-vomica 30 C. (I just had to
pause here as he tried to make his way to the dog door to
carry him out to pee)! Beagles have a very strong will to live
but I fear that monday will be his last day on earth as the
old-school treatments have produced no improvements so far!

Oh I am so very sorry!! Please hug your sweet Goober for me.

I'm reminded of a line in Mark Levin's book, Rescuing Sprite:

No time on earth is long enough to share with those we love, or to prepare out heart for goodbye.

You and Goober are both in my thoughts.

Poor Goober!

I'm sure no dog could have a better owner. Many these days would turn them away when they slowed down, but you chose to stay the course. I'm sure, if he could, he would thank you.

Re: Goobers time has run-out!

This is exactly what happened to my first dog which was a mixed-breed border collie named JJ. When she got to about 10 years old, she was always laying down with her back tightly snug against the bookcase all day long because she had arthiritis in her back. The longer she slept with her back against the bookcase, her legs and arms were slowly going to waste. It was very pitiful to watch her condition deteriorate over the next few years. We did walk her as much as she could tolerate it but eventually her condition had gotten so bad that by the time I told my parents, Please put JJ to sleep. I hate to see her being this crippled. I know it's the right thing to do., we were having to carry her outside to let her pee and do poopy then carry her back inside. She was that crippled. Upon my request, they took her to the vet and she died peacefully in just a few minutes after the vet put her to sleep. When she died, only her right leg was the only good limb she had. The rest were wasted away. I wish I hadn't let her live as long as she did and end up being so pitifully crippled.

Now that I have Dillon if he ends up like JJ did, I'm not gonna allow him to get as badly crippled as JJ was. I am sad to hear Goober has ended up the same way JJ did. He'll be waiting for you up in Heaven.

I am saddened to read about Goober but know you have been a wonderful beagle Dad all these many years. As a beagle parent to an elderly dog, I can empathize with your tough decision but know you will do what is best for Goober. Gentle hugs to you and Goober.

I'm sorry. I know what you are going through and I know that you are strong enough and love Goober enough to help him through this. I am so very sorry...

Re: Goobers time has run-out!

I am so sorry to hear this. I know you have been the best doggie dad a beagle could ever have. My thoughts and heart are with you both during this difficult time. Hugs and puppy kisses to you both. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes at what you are going through - like many here, I've been there, done that - and I know how much it hurts!
Please know that you and Goober are in my thoughts.
