Goobers rabies shot & vet check!

Well, Goober will easily make it to his 16th birthday! But, he is
showing many signs of age! When I bathed him friday nite I found
a lump in the web of skin on his front left leg "arm-pit" that
fortunatly was just a "pimple-like" lump that the vet drained &
tested for cancer. It was "negative" but his heart-murmer is more
pronounced as they let me listen to his heart-beat that sounds
more like a "swoosh-swoosh" rather than a "crisp" "pop-pop". And
for an unnewtered male of his age he is very healthy, but one of
his "grapes" is about 20 to 30% smaller than the other one but
the "texture" is still normal! He might have to be newtered to extend his life...but his heart is the biggest concern...as the
vet asked if he has had a coughing problem! Goober is still very
active & still greets me with "the zoomies" when I come home from
work or even a short trip to the store on weekends!

Zoomies at almost 16..... I envy Goober (I doubt that I'll be able to do that when I'm around 120 years of age.... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hyper.gif. Assuming I'll get to be even close... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol2.gif).

Goober needs to have a big 16th birthday party with some special treats. Sixteen years is quite an accomplishment and a testament to your great care of him.

Great about Goober! If his heart is not too good though, I dont think I would opt for the operation. Amazing that he is almost 16.

Good report about Goober! I would have to agree with "doghouse" about surgery -- anesthesia is rough on our seniors and, unless absolutely essential, I think I would pass but you know your Goober better than we do certainly.

True, Surgery at this point in his life is very risky! I may have
to let "nature take over at this point"! None of our previous
male beags lived beyond 13 yrs, but they were rescues unlike
Goober that I purchased from a hobby breeder! Goober is the eldest beag "client" with our vet...but not by much! Alpine
animal hospital has several seniour beags as patients, but Goober
is the most "fit" among them! Sure, he is a spoiled beag... but
he has not been "fed to death" like many fat & overfed beags! He
is now a "shadow" of his youth when he was a very muscle-bound
45#'s in his youth, but now barely weighs 30 #'s!EEK!

Re: Goobers rabies shot & vet check!

Our family has learned a lot about elder beags thanks to Goober!
Pop's "mini-beag", Rufus enters his 12th year this month with few
problems like a white face, but he had a problem with his prostate a year ago that was cured by adding "Saw-Palmetto" to his diet! He is still the "Alpha" to Nibbler, (nearly 8yrs old) &
much bigger than him! Rufus is a tiny 10" tall beag that barely
weighs 17 lbs!"thumbup"
