Golden Eye Beagles?

Hi Everyone!

A few months ago, I was walking my lovely girl Boone when we stopped to speak with a neighbor. This particular neighbor, who is extremely friendly, loves to tell me about the beagle she had growing up - who she claims was also a golden eye beagle.

I asked her what this meant, and she said it refers to their eye-color (obviously) but also the coat - our Boone has more blonde and light brown than most tri-colors and has absolutely no black, but instead a darkish brown along the back.

So since then, of course, every time someone stops to talk to Boone and remark on how pretty she is, I always say she is a golden eye beagle.

Except - I just searched google for golden eye beagles, and nothing came back

Has anyone ever heard this phrase?

I haven't heard that term, but I have definitely seen chocolate tri beagles (with a dark brown saddle) that have lighter eyes than the standard tricolour beagles with the black saddle. Does Boone also have a pink nose rather than a black one? I think that often goes along with chocolate tri colouring.
Does this count as a Golden Eye Beagle. Tucker is tri-colored (faded with age)., but his eyes are sort of gold colored.

Our Chipper, by your picture of Tucker, was a golden eye bagel.
He looked just like Tucker's eyes, but then he was a basset/beagle. No matter what anyone says, beagles have the most expressive eyes in the world.

She is definitely a chocolate tri as you mentioned Booker, and her nose I would say is more brown than pink, but is not black.

I've tried to add a picture of our girl with this post, hope it worked

Maybe all chocolate tri-color beagles have the golden eyes? Or maybe my neighbor just made that up?

Here is a link to a good discussion of beagle coat colors, with lots of pictures. Under the Dilutes it mentions the lighter eyes.

Our Cole is classified as a Chocolate beagle and he has the golden eyes and light nose.
When he was just a wee pup his eyes were a gorgeous shade of blue (I know most pups' are but his were crystal).
I know I'm a little late to the party, but I found this forum when searching for info on "chocolate" beagles and their eye colors. We have a chocolate beagle, too, and his eyes are light, golden brown and his body is dark brown, light/reddish brown, and white. He also has a pinkish brown nose as well. My husband was initially concerned about his bloodline due to the lighter eyes/nose, but I assured him there ARE others, LOL. Until we got this dog, he hadn't known of beagles with these colorings.

I didn't know chocolate beagles existed until we first saw our dog, so I know what you mean! Ally also has very light brown eyes (although sometimes you can see some green in them, and on occasion it looks like there's dark blue as well). She's got light and dark brown fur (with white) and reddish brown on her bum. She also has a pink nose, which I didn't think anyone would comment on except it was the very first comment we got from someone about Ally.

Same here, when people see us out on a walk they often comment on how handsome our dog is. All beagles are handsome of course, but I think the chocolate tri-colors have a unique look that catches attention. Our dog, Tucker, is 1 1/2 now and he's nearly all dark brown and lighter brown. (The avatar pic is a puppy pic and I need to upload a recent photo.) Only Tucker's paws, chest/belly, tip of tail, and one very small part of his muzzle are white now. I love the brown color combo. It certainly grabbed my eye when we met him as a pup.
I love the light golden eyes!! So pretty (handsome) :)

LOL, I think they're pretty, too. I just say handsome to appease his masculinity (especially since the poor boy was just neutered ;-)

BTW, do any of you w/dogs with the light eyes notice their eyes seem to "disappear" in photos? LOL. I've noticed in many of our pics when the flash hits just right his eyes don't show up and look "empty" instead. Maybe b/c they don't contrast with the surrounding fur?

I think lemon-white/tan-white are my favourites. Ally's mom was that colour.

Honestly though, I think I <3 all beagles. I don't know if it's just because we have Ally, but I can look at any beagle and think it's so cute whereas with a lot of other dogs I don't always find them cute. Hmm...

Agreed , just look at some dogs in children's books, in the fairy tales the real cute dogs are always beagles.
I had a conversation with someone about the Westminster's winner deerhund and I said it is not a pretty dog. What do you think?
Yes, they are good looking dogs. I think their emotional faces are what does it for me.

Wow, that "open marked" beagle on that link you gave is interesting looking! I've never seen one like that! And I have to say, beagle pups are soooo irresistible!

When I search Google images, a scottish deerhound comes up. Is that the dog?

Personally, no, I don't like the look of that dog :\

HICKORY! I like them in their own way. If I saw one I would coo over him. However it isn't a dog I would choose for my self.

Yes Open marked beagles = neat!!

It's okay, but I wouldn't get one if I were getting any dog I could choose. There are very few dogs that I find just plain unattractive, this isn't the prettiest I can think of, but not the homliest either. If I had a deerhound I'd have to name it Scruffy, though, LOL, for obvious reasons ;)
