Outside Petco on the day that we first looked at what ended up being the first home we've owned. We had viewed the house, and thought, "If we were to buy that house, we'd be able to finally get a dog." Lo and behold, the nearby pet store had a shelter displaying adoptable pets that day, and that was where we first saw Willie.

Silky ears

5) What talent(s) does your beagle possess?

He can open jars. Not awful when it's peanut butter, bad when it's Nutella.

On our bed, curled up against my feet.

traveled?

From Kansas City to Northeastern Pennsylvania and back, via Cincinnati, Ohio, on a Thanksgiving road trip.

Pretty darned hyper.

Royal Blue, as any KC dog's should be. His walking halter is black, with little reflective silver paw prints on it.

1) What is the name of your beagle(s)?

Shiloh

2) What is your favorite nickname for him/her?

Shy, Shy-Shy, Shy Girl, Bug (because of her sweet but kind of beady eyes in her white face!)

3) Where were you when you first laid eyes on your beagle?

At my home; her previous owner came for a home visit and all felt right, so I kept her.

4) What is your favorite beagle part?

Soft velvety ears, soulful eyes when you get close. Her mix with whatever else she is gives her neat white eyelashes, too.

5) What talent(s) does your beagle possess?

She can charm my fourteen-year-old cat into tolerating her, and is a saint about not harassing kitty. I wasn't expecting introducing a new dog into my house to be at all this easy. She also winks at people when they're paying attention to her.

6) Where is your beagle's favorite place to sleep?

On her doggy bed with her blanket from the previous owner (she's not allowed on the bed because fourteen-year-old kitty needs a space of her own). She also likes the sofa, obviously -- I've now put a blanket on the sofa so she can't scratch it up.

7) Where is the farthest your beagle has traveled?

I don't know, besides me, but she has traveled from Kinderhook, NY (her prior home) to Albany, NY.

Belly rubs are the best. thing. ever.

An athletic slug who lounges around all day but is so freaking excited for walks and playtime!

It was black, but nothing special. I got her a reflective collar: since she's a redhead with freckles, I played to the Irish stereotype, and it's got reflective shamrocks with a light green border. Her walking belt is green, too. Éire go Brách!
