It will often help if you put something in there that has your scent on it, like a worn shirt or whatever. When my dogs were crated as a pup at night, the crate was ON the bed between our legs. That way, the dog still felt as though they were sleeping with us and if they got upset, I could just put my fingers through.

I found with my crate, the pan against the bars at the botton made a strange noise that freaked the dogs out. I cut a piece of carpet to fit in below the pan and that helped.

Also, what are you using as bedding? Something cushy and cozy always seemed to help with my two.
