How do you use the built in spell checker in FireFox?

on mine, firefox puts a red line under my misspelled words and then I right click on the words and it gives me alternate possibilities. If you right click in the text box there should be spell check in the options to turn it on. Hope this makes sense

I love the spellchecker and all the customizations you can use to tweak Firefox. It's just one of the things that makes me love it. You can also add words to your spellcheck dictionary by right-clicking on anything it sees misspelled and selecting Add to dictionary from the menu. It's handy so at least when you're proofreading a post or something, you don't have to remember which red underlined words are just words not in the dictionary that you know are spelled right (such as an unusual brand name or a non-traditional spelling of a person's name) or whether it's something you have to correct.

I have been using it as a second browser for a while now but started using it on my USB stick as the primary browser. (Another post later)

I like all the things you can do with it over IE and it is more stable and don't crash like IE does.

And if you really want to be sure that your codes are compatible with IE too, there is a firefox add-on that simulates IE in a different tab (I haven't tested it myself, but it's a nice option to have!) I can't say I'm impressed with the other IE alternatives out there, though. Opera is still not completely there. Neither is Chrome or Safari (although Safari is FAST).

I've been having trouble with the new 3.0 version. When someone sends files that would normally open with window media, it calls itself a MHT file and will not open for anything.

IE on my computer is really fubbered so I don't even use it anymore. But I would like to fix this problem.

Anyone know what to do?

Are you only experiencing this with certain file extensions that try to launch media player (mp3, wma, acc?) Also, where are you trying to open that file from (gmail, hotmail, yahoomail?) Are these files embedded into the email?

Here's some information on what MHT files are:

You'll need the following programs to open MHT files:
For Mac OS - Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x
Opera

Windows - Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later
- Mozilla Firefox with the Mozilla Archive Format extension
- Opera

If I open it from my computer it is called a MHT file.

But when I open it at the computer lab at school, it's called a WMA file

Also it is opening from Hotmail.

I didn't have this problem before I updated firefox, but now with the new version I been having that trouble

Hmm, I'm not sure Madison...this sounds a little funky. It may be a number of reasons including (but not limited to):

1. The way the sender attached or sent the WMA file.
2. Are you using a Mac, Linux, or PC?
3. Your firefox browser does not recognize what to do with the WMA file.

Can you right-click on file and select Save Link As..? If Firefox 3 allows you to save the file to your computer as a WMA file, it's probably a browser file association or OS configuration issue.
