How long do you think we should wait after feeding Maggie her evening meal before taking her out on a 3-5 mile walk. She's still a really poor/picky eater, and usually only eats one meal a day, usually in the late evening, an hour or so before going to bed.

With the weather turning hot (it was 100 degrees here today), we haven't been taking her out until the sun goes down...around 8:00 pm. Tonight she was begging to eat around 7:30 pm (that's a first!) and hubby took her out on his walk right after she finished.

I'm just wondering if walking 3-5 miles on a full stomach is OK, or if we should try and wait an hour or two before taking her out.

Any suggestions?

They usually eat less when it's hot, so don't worry about that. I also only feed Chloe one a day, she just won't even finish half the portion if I feed her twice. Many dogs eat once a day, and although Beagles usually can stop stuffing their faces they are sometimes poor eaters.
I take Chloe out between 1/2-1 hour after for a walk/park play.

On a walk that long in that kind of heat please make sure you water for you and your Beag. Our buddies can dehydrate quickly.

We feed our boys around 1730 and they ususally spend the next 2 hours in the back yard running and chsing each other. Sometimes the neighbors bring their pooches over for some socializing.

I usually feed after exercise, about an hour after. This helps with Henry's picky-ness, and sends him into sweet dreams...
