I have become the parent of a 7 month old beagle. I am reading that I may definitely have made a mistake by letting him play and run so hard (1 1/2 HR with bigger dogs,,usually). He loves it, definitely holding his own. I certainly don't want to damage his skeletal system

Where are you reading that? Beagles do tend to have some hip issues. So keeping that in mind.

No amount of exercise is too much for a Beagle, especially a 7 month old. Exercise leads to peaceful nights for Beagle owners.

My vet told me to exercise my pup until he wears out. She did caution me to make sure he isnt jumping, standing, or “begging“ on his hind legs too much. That’s the joint issue, I think. Otherwise, walking them, running the stars in the apartment building, or chasing them around outside is fine as long as the stress is balanced on all legs.
