Luigi has this odd habit. He shoves his food bowl around. at first, we weren't sure why, but after trolling on here, i added some water to his food, and that seemed to stop it, but lately he has resumed doing it, to the point where he shoves his bowl off the concrete patio onto the grass a few inches below...

But I don't know the reason for that habit either...

Jersey ocassionally does that. I've yet to figure out why.

These kids will push around empty bowls - think they're trying to get every last bit of food out of it!

Tucker pushes his bowl around when he is trying to get any remanent flavor from meals past. When we had Cleo, Tucker and her would wait for the other to finish, then lick each others bowl, then lick their own bowls again just to make sure nothing fell in while they weren't looking.

whenever Monty wants more water in his bowl he pushes it around. It;s a metal bowl, and makes a lot of noise on our hardwood floors, so i come runningto refill it everytime!! Guess that's how he learnt it!!

Oh wow, Oreo does that too! It's like he's trying to nose something up from the floor onto the bowl.

Its a programming default left in Beagles accidently. Have you noticed your Beagle trying to dig a hole in the carpet, couch or bed, then covering the imaginary hole with imaginary dirt? The described behavior with the food bowls comes from the same instinct.

Bama used to do this ALL of the time, not so much now. However, this is a protective instinct some dogs still carry from the days before dogs were domesicated. The theory is a dog would hide a bone from the rest of pack, which is filled with marrow and life sustaining nutrients for a time when food was scarce.

Its either that or Beagles are just weird.

Daisy pushes her bowl around a lot, but usually it's when she's trying to lick every last little crumb from it. Then when Rocky is done she'll do the same to his bowl!
