Menolly has picked up something I thought rather...strange.

She picks up big dirt clods from the backyard and brings them inside.
Evidently she chews on them too, cause her mouth often has specks of dirt inside. I haven't seen her swallow any, thank God, but it's still weird. She also loves grabbing rocks; especially the quartz that's everywhere out here.

Anyone elses' dog do this?

I think it must be a puppy-thing. When Maggie was young, she always picked up sticks, rocks and weird things to carry around. Like Menolly, she wanted to bring them in the house.

My Maggie did the same thing as a pup. Anything she could carry she put in her mouth and tried to bring in . She still does occasionally but now its more to engage me in a game. She brought big clumps of dirt from the holes she was digging, grass, sticks, and balls from the neighbor's yard that had accidently been tossed in our yard. Once she had a stick that was so long it wouldn't fit in the doorway. Maggie had such a surprised look on her face. She came to the inside of the door and tried to pull and pull.
Menolly will probably outgrow this habit when she is a little older.

Though they aren't as obsessed with plain dirt (my back yard is mostly smooth pebbles, a deck, a covered porch, and only a small area of patch grass), both my puppies love rocks and sticks. Bones looks so cute carrying around a stick that's larger than she is. I see them with rocks only slightly less often, though they may be playing with them more than I realize: at 7:30 this morning, I was awakened by the sound of Bones throwing up a small, rounded rock onto the carpet
She's done it before, as there are times I've found a few rocks in the kennel for a reason I haven't been able to fathom (until now).

Just last night, both Duke and Violet were eating dirt. I haven't seen them do it before and hopefully they were just trying to get to something in it, like a bug. Ew.

Rocks are a different story. We have a rock garden in the back yard and they drive us crazy stealing rocks out of it. They bring them inside and chew on them. Well, until they get caught and then I take them away and put them on the counter. I would put them back in the yard, but those little buggers know which rock they had and will not stop until they get it again, even if I try to bury it under others. Right now, I have 2 rocks on the counter just from this morning. Hubby says we won't have a rock garden if this keeps up! LOL

Oh yeah - I still find rocks in the house occasionally, and I don't have any LITTLE puppies (Angel is the baby, and she's almost a year and a half now). They'll bring in anything they can get in their mouths.

Unfortunately our backyard is mostly dirt, so they're plenty of opporitunities for Nolly to get filthy. Also LOTS of rocks; maybe with the ones she brings in I'll start a rock collection, LOL.
