I have had Toby on a diet for a little over a month now and he sure doesn't seem to be losing anything. I have him eating 1/2 kibble/1/2 green beans mix. He is only getting 1/4 cup of kibble at each of his two feedings. I can't imagine going any less. Do I need to switch to diet kibble?? He is not obese, but does need to lose 3-5 lbs.

Also, should I avoid giving Toby raw hides if he is on a diet? He doesn't get a lot of them, but when Lucky is in a chewing mood I can't give one a rawhide and not the other!

Also, we walk, but with the heat index consistenly over 100 degrees, more exercise really isn't an option right now.

I wish I did have a treadmill! For Toby and for me!!!

I am trying to encourage zoomies! They usually have a pretty good case of them in the morning! Now, if I can just get them to play chase more often.

The current kibble is regular Innova. It's the same thing Lucky eats. I may buy the lite and mix it with the regular and see if that helps before going all diet.

Does anyone know about rawhides? I don't know if I should not be letting Toby have them at all or if those are low calorie and o.k.

Thanks for the help!

I stopped in at my local pet health store (the one that sells top quality foods) to pick up the boys food and got to talking to the store owner about Toby's diet. She said that she didn't feel diet food was right for him, which I thought was big of her since she clearly could have made more $$ off of me! She said to stick with what I was doing. She said that it takes a long while for a 29 lb. dog to lose 3 lbs. and that I shouldn't expect results too quickly. Of course, she encouraged more exercise and few/no treats, but she did say that rawhides were fine to give him. I guess we will stick with it. She said not to be suprised if it takes a year to lose that weight.
