Has anyone ever gone through this? Any suggestions or advice? I know that it's passed on through the mom and not contagious, but I would like to get personal input about it....thanks!

Quinn has localized mange. It's not really an issue, though I did notice that it got a little worse while she was at Evan's parents' this past weekend. It could have been from playing, but it seemed like she lost a little more hair in her spot. Everything I've heard about localized mange says that it eventually heals itself, so you can either treat it or just wait for it to go away, AS LONG AS IT DOESN'T SPREAD. The vet gave me a shampoo that, unfortunately, I haven't been able to wash her with every week because she's with Evan and, well, he doesn't do it.
Quinn's spot hasn't gotten any bigger. It's just there and hasn't healed yet.

Another thing I was told is that if she has it, Grayson is guaranteed to get it at some point because they have the same mother. According to things I've read and the vet, the mother should not have been bred because she has susceptibility to mange.

Roscoe had this when he was about 5 or 6 months old, the vet gave us a topical cream to put on 2 or 3 times a day (I forget) in addition to a pill

It was really a non-event, he had only a few red spots on him and after a few days of the medicine it was gone and he is now 2 years old and no recurrence or problems

Someone else had this problem a while ago and it was discussed alot. I did a search for mange and there are several beagles that have gone through this recently. You might want to check out the old threads for some insight.

I have littermates Maggie and Jasmine. Maggie and her sisters contracted Demodectic Mange from the mother, but Jasmine never got it? (four pups in the litter) Maggie went for the dips and it was clearing it up but not as fast as what the vet would have liked, so he did give her the shot for the other mange. If I remember right, she had one more dip after the shot and had a good scrape. Never came back and her hair grew back beatifully. She is also a lemon so you so the red, balding skin easier than on a tri.
