So...We've trained Henry to go potty outside when we're home. When we're at work he's confined to a small area (Laundry Room) and pees in his litter box w/pad. The problem is he doesn't poop in the litter box. He'll pee in there all day , but poop on the floor. How can we get him to use the litter box for both when we're not home.

Second question...

Henry will pick up everything on the ground when we take him outside. Leaves, rocks, etc...you name it. I know he's still young (3months) but I was wondering if there was anyway to break him of this habit? When he does find some, say a leaf for example, we'll yank the leash and yell NO!...he'll leave that leaf alone and go onto the next object he can grab with his mouth.

Thanks

Kirby -- I can't address the pee/poop issue as it has been a very long time since I had a puppy but I did teach my Maggie the word "nasty" whenever she would pick up something out on our walks. When I started, I would give her a gentle tug on her leash at the same time I said "nasty". Since I used "no" for other situations, I thought it best to teach her a different word for outside yuckies. Not sure if 3 months old is too young to start similar training so will leave that to more experienced puppy owners.

If you are constantly with your puppy when you are outside I would bring a bargaining chip like a favorite toy or something like that to get their attention on an approved toy (I wouldn't use a treat in this situation as I wouldn't want my pups grabbing up junk just to get the treat).

As for the litter box question, I was pretty much in the same boat with Rhett until I could get the dog door in. He just couldn't comprehend using the pad for multiple purposes. Heck I was lucky if he used the pad twice.
