I am wondering if I should take a proactive role on my part – on behalf of the Beaglebratz. Here’s the scenario:

I live in a duplex – my half has a fenced backyard that I had installed shortly after I moved in – December of 2001. It was in the spring of 2003 that Shiloh came to live with me followed by Shasta in 2006. I have had only 1 complaint (which never went far), a few years ago, about Shiloh barking, WHEN HE WAS IN MY FENCED BACK YARD. Now for the latest (last 24 hours). Gee, where do I begin with these people – my neighbors (the ones in the other half of this duplex) besides not having a fenced backyard for their 11 mnth old GSD, recently acquired a pet rabbit that they keep in a small cage. Now being in a duplex you can probably guess how close their porch is to me. Ok – beginning at about 5:30 last evening, the rabbit is in it’s little wire cage, sitting on the ground, under their kitchen window – by the time I went to bed last nite, it had been moved to the porch/patio area (our kitchen windows are less than 2 feet apart. When I left for work this morning, shortly before 7, said rabbit was still there in it’s cage on the porch. I cannot let my dogs out to go potty unless I take them on the leash, down to the far corner of my backyard. Otherwise they are rite there at the fence, barking their heads off. Even as I drag them out into the yard, they are barking. I know that if Shiloh ever got out of MY FENCED yard, and if that rabbit was not in it’s cage – it would be MY fault if something happened to the rabbit.

My question – do you all think I should notify AC that this is going on so that if there are any complaints about the loud barking, my butt and the Beaglebratz are covered. Once I get them in the house, they are fine. The minute they even step on my deck – they know that rabbit is there. There were a couple of times I just let them bark – even encouraged them (not that they needed it). I feel so bad for the rabbit but hey, I didn’t put him there. Oh, these neighbors moved in, maybe a couple years ago – I’ve been there since 12/2001 - both dogs were well established with me when they moved in. Believe me, they have done a few things since they have been there to convince me and my sis that they have about as much common sense as my little finger.
I have tried to be nice – I have recommended a good fence company who even went by and left their business card – “Oh we’re going to put one up ourselves (yea rite – that was a few months ago). Before they got the GSD, they never had a dog - I offered any helf as far as hints for training (they never ask) They also have a 4 yr old son – his care is dubious at times. I need to get bak to work – this is long enough. Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks for your help - I thought I had informed them about the love-hate relationship between Beagles and rabbits but maybe they need a reminder (altho they should have gotten it by now). Yes, they will get the reminder and I do think I will add-
Quote:and i would feel rotten if my dogs somehow got out of the fence, because they would definately go after your rabbit.
Anyway, we are all going to be away from here for the next 3 days starting tomrrow so maybe they will change a little (doubt it). The dogs will stay with my nephew and their 2 Westies while his mom $ I head out to Colorado - not really a good time because we will leave early tomorrow morning (5-6) then funeral on Friday then bak here on Saturday (my uncle there died - not unexpected since he was in his 90's and poor health).

Anyway will be busy tonight - washing/drying clothes - cleaning house a bit so not sure if I'll be here later. Rite now - bak to work.
