well,
he was getting more and more laxidazical thursday eve, not playing with the other two, then finally just sitting there staring into space this morning (friday).
so wife took him in. we feared intestinal block (he eats anything) since we hadnt seen him poo for a while.
so the vet says 104 temp, blood test shows heightened white blood cell count (infection) no probs on x ray of abdomen. pancreas fine. and he went poo when the tech took him outside.
so they gave him some pain meds (they said he acted in pain when they tried to move him around).
and doxicicline (sp?).
so i brought him home and he was totally druged. (pain meds i think) tongue hanging out, eyes dialated, layed on his side.
what is strange is when we went to pick him up, he started baying like he was in pain. (but we never really picked him up!) and so i consolled him. then said hey buddy, wanna go potty he sat up, and i then set him on the floor, (no bark or bay) and he walked (staggered) out to go potty. but never went potty.
then back inside to eat a treat mom offered. then i called him into the bedroom where he jumped up on the bed himself.
the other strange symptom is that he holds his left front paw up. and when he does put it down, it doesnt spread like the right, it looks a little stiffer.
so if anyone has an idea please let me know.
thanks in advance.
you guys (and girls) are great.

Poor Champ! Pain meds will make a dog loopy, that's for sure. Did the vet check Champ's foot pads thoroughly? Was wondering if he might not have gotten something caught or perhaps he stepped on something that caused an irritation and infection in that area. You might try a warm compress wrapped very lightly around his paw and see if that makes him more comfortable. My Maggie always made it very clear to me (and the vet's staff) that she didn't want to be touched when she was in pain -- our pups absolutely communicate with us! Be sure to keep us updated.

I'm so sorry to hear about that! Did they figure out where the infection was or just give him anti-biotics?

When Daisy doesn't feel good sometimes she'll do odd things, like lifting a paw, or yelping. Both Rocky and Daisy will yelp if they think they're in trouble and we pick them up.

When Daisy was drugged so they could x-ray her sinuses she was SUPER loopy at the vets office and when we brought her home. She would drool and try and walk around, then practically fall down like she was drunk.

Hope Champ gets better soon!

Sorry to hear Champ isn't feeling well. If he has an infection the antibiotic should start working after a few doses and that will bring the fever down. Like people animals can have muscle aches when they have a fever. Hopefully you see some improvement this morning.

ok,
he seems a little better this morn,
we got him to take an antibiotic last night, and another ths morn. he seems more lucid, not so drugged.
the three went out in the yard to do their dooty, and he just stood around,
didnt see him go.then he came back in and went and jumped up on the bed.
no yelping though.
he doesnt seem to limp either.
i will keep you posted and thanks for your caring.

looks like a re-lapse!
came home today, wife says looks like champ is sick again.
same symptoms.
paw lifted, very hot, shivering, just lays there, if you pick him up he howls like in pain.

so we got him more antibiotics (they seemed to work last time)

just perplexed at to what might be going on.
the other dogs seem fine.
im wondering, allergies? menangitis? mange? tetnus?
i will do some internet research.
and will keep you posted.

Poor Champ and poor you guys too. I can imagine how frustrating this must be. Any chance of getting a different vet involved? Sounds like maybe he may have stepped on something or the pad may be bruised or?????????? If he got stung - the stinger could still be in his paw. If he got bit by some kind of insect - that venom could be in his system and cause it to act up again?
I'm just grasping at straws here.
