Carrots?

Hey guys,

Someone I met at the vet said he feeds his beagle mix pup carrots everyday.
then I read somewhere that it's good for their teeth.

So, I started giving him a carrot as a snack this weekend. Marey LOVES his carrots. He plays with it for a while, running around with it in his mouth, tossing it here and there, rolling over on it, etc. Then he settles in and eats it /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Anyone else give carrots?

What else do you guys feed them?

I give Maggie baby carrots, and an occasional piece of apple or banana. At breakfast she gets steamed green beans or canned pumpkin mixed with her food...not many calories but she seems more satisfied.
Beaglina loves raw carrots too - I found out by accident (of course!) and thought that it was really odd - but it seems to be pretty common. She also likes a bit of raw celery and has been known to help herself to apples and even hazelnuts from under the trees - though I'm not sure whether she actually eats them.
I give Chloe baby carrots. Sometimes I cute the to little cubes and mix it with her food, sometimes I just give it to her as a treat...
She loves it!!!!!!!!!!!!
A vet also told me that blueberries and butternut squash is good for them (to bake it and glaze it with a little honey, then mix it with their food). I'm going to try that over the weekend.
Our last beagle, Spotty, adored carrots and would steal them from our vegetable trolley. Her teeth were perfect at 14 and the vet was convinced it was the carrots.
Snoopy adores carrots and apples, he gets them every day. Susi is not keen, but will eat half a carrot just to stop Snoopy having it! She wont touch apples though.
all ours love carrots even the peelings /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Sammy loves carrots, green beans, apples and bananas.....all seem to fill her up and that is a difficult task.
Carrots are a mild source of sugar & should be fed to them in moderation in raw form, but cooked & drained most of the sugar is gone but not most of the vitamins & minerals. Beags love mixed vegetables...(but they LOVE nearly anything edible)!!! Long before the wheat gluten fiasco, I have made my own "wet-food" to mix with their dry-food. In short, I use a pound of frozen mixed veggies & 2to 4 packets of ramen noodles or equevelent pasta & a pound of any kind of meat or fish! (And the spice packet of one of the ramen noodle packs) to season it! Use a few spoons of this with their dry-food & some warm-water & you will get even the "fussiest eater" to clean-out their food bowl!

Both of my girls love carrots, bananas, apples, broccoli, but there dislikes are lettuce(any kind) and celery. They keep trying to chew it and finally spit it out...
Btw, Do give your beag a "pet-tab" multi vitamin at least twice a week or the Wal-mart equevalent. Goober is a good test-case of what we have learned over the years as he still greets me with a session of "the zoomies" when I come home after work even though he is now approaching 16 yrs old! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

It depends on Caesars mood. Sometimes he loves carrots and other times he spits it out and looks at me like "Where's the real treat?". I also give him apples, oranges and blueberries. Emma likes to eat lettuce but Caesar hates it. I guess salad is a girl thing /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

My Annie-dog LOVED carrots! She'd do tricks for them and beg whenever I had any on me. Whne the other two dogs saw her getting treats, they learned to like them, too. None of them liked any other fruit or veggie, though.
Gee Joanna and Eleanor depending on which way your traveling you can pick me up.. I'm in the middle of both of you....
Mine both love carrots. My Mom bring fresh ones from her garden in summer for them. Not for me LOL.
Our vet recommended baby carrots as a treat rather than any other snack that is sold commerically. It does help with their teeth and sight....and my boys love their carrots.

Cathy and the boys
My two get baby carrots, red, green and yellow peppers, apples, bananas, strawberries, celery (cut small with the "hair" pulled out), cucumber, blueberries, melon, you name it. Just not grapes or rasins. Oh, and Spencer does not do well on canned pumpkin so he doesn't get that either.
I love this place! I came on looking for ideas to keep Diggity "busy" chewing on other things and saw this thread. She's working on a carrot right now!
homer will not eat his fruits and veggies.i have tried giving him(or dropping while cooking....lol)carrots(cooked and raw)green beans, apples, grapes, melons, brocolli, califlower, lettuce, potatos, tomatos, and he won't eat them.he will run over all excited that he's getting something i am eating and then when he realizes what it is he throws is with his mouth and walks away......lol.he will however eat and clean up any messes on the kitchen floor involing any kind of meat and noodles
