We had our consultation with the surgeon this morning and he has suggested that Caesar get surgery for his luxating patella on his left knee. He goes in on Wednesday afternoon. He said that it's a 2 out of four as far as seriousness goes but since Caesar has been having problems since June of last year that he should have it fixed. Caesar has also gained a lot of weight which doesn't help. His limp was worse after he went for a long walk/run so we started to cut back on his excercise which led to him being 15kg (33lbs). He's a little sausage! He needs to lose 4-6lbs.
I just spent the last hour crying. Shane keeps telling me that it's okay, it's not serious and the surgery is going to help him. But I just couldn't stop crying. I'm okay now, I think I just had to get it all out.
He'll have a 8-12 week recovery and in that time he can't run or jump and needs to stay in his kennel or in a small room with no furniture. We have a spare bedroom that just has boxes in it so we'll clean it out tonight and put his bed and blankets in there. He's going to be so bored, he won't even be able to see out the window. He will need to be on a leash when he goes out to potty and no playing with Emma. That will be hard on both of them.
Thankfully Shane has Thursday and Friday off work so he can keep an eye on Caesar right after the surgery. Meanwhile I'll be a wreck at work. Wish us luck.
