Well, we took Buck to the vet last night to ask them about why he now has three broken teeth. He was also there because he is having another bout of peristent diarrhea since last Saturday night.
They did bloodwork and everything came back normal. They did ask my husband today when they called with the results whether Buckley was exposed to tetracycline either as a puppy or in utero. He's a rescue, so of course we have no idea. Apparently that can cause brittle teeth.
So the long and the short of it is that they don't know. With the diarrhea, they think he might have developed food allergies, which may require that we start the very long process of trying different foods with very basic ingredients with an alternate protein source (i.e. not lamb, chicken or beef). We don't know yet - the vet wanted to consult with some of her colleagues to get some other opinions.
In the meantime, he is on salazopyrin again and enjoying his rice and boiled hamburger diet. No accidents last night and he slept well, so that was good. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif
It's good to read that Buckley's bloodwork is normal so, at least, that's one less worry. Hope the cause for his diarrhea can be found soon. Is the vet going to pull the damaged teeth?
Interesting....Teddy is a rescue too and can eat only one brand of dog food, Nutro chicken and rice for sensitive stomachs. Our vet surmised Ted because had worms so bad when taken in by the Humane Socity that it had permanently left its mark on his digestive system. Any variation from this diet and we get all kinds of problems
Hope Buckley feels better soon.
