One might not think it possible... But now that he is in the
Grandpaw stage, It is tough to get him to eat enough!!! I
have been blessed to have him thus far...& I do what I can to
prolong his life! He only has to live for 3 more months to outlive the cockateil I had from birth to death to beat Gorros
record!!! (After 9 hrs of working on my Toyota)... Goober pulled nearly as tight as Homer to get home! Goober may be
an elder beag...but he is the top dog !

Sixteen years! My gosh what a long life. My former breed had a lifespan of only 12 years - how wonderful that you've had so much time with him. Congratulations, but I do know well how difficult it is to see your baby not want to eat, have difficulty walking, etc. So my heart goes out to you to at the same time.

Grandpaw Goober is nearly blind & deaf... but today he was confronted by Bear the youngest of my neighbors hounds & a ROOUF by him was all that was needed to place that young
doxie in his place! Goober is the ultimate Alpha dog & it
will be very tough for me to lose him when his time comes!
Snapper was my first one, but Goober has been the most versatile
beag so far!!! Duke had a great record of teaching our young
beags how to behave...But Goober, (taught by him) has taught
several dogs how to use a dog-door!

I think it's awesome that Goober is doing so well. Having recently lost one of my senior labs and seeing the decline in my 12 y/o, I know with a senior you take every day as a blessing, and Goober is quite a blessing.

Way to go Goober!! My beagle Benny was 14 when he passed away - he was also deaf and was losing his sight.

As for eating, at that stage in his life just give assorted things you think he might like. When my kitty was 19, the vet said just give him pretty much whatever he wants, as long as he eats. And in smaller portions too, it helps with digestion.

At the time it was not thought possible...as Snapper & Duke
only lived for 13 yrs...but Goober has been a very healthy beag! Gorromino, the cockateil lived for 16 & a 1/2 yrs & was
about the same age as Goober was when I got him. Goober is
only 3 months away from outliving him! Granted... that comparing beags to birds might not sound right, but at the time a cockateil had an average lifespan of 17 yrs & a beag was lucky to last past 13!

Ditto N&B! Goober has been an exellent judge of strangers, but
due to his advanced age...Homer-the-Huge is the puppy that he
has raised & now is the primary greeter when strangers enter
my property! (When he stands on his hind legs he is nearly as
tall as the average human)!!! (Thumbup)
