Our Bo went into the emergency clinic saturday because he couldn't stop throwing up. At first they x-rayed him and said he had a foreign body in the GI track. They had to keep him and medicate him in hopes that he would pass it.

They called this morning to inform us that they need to do an ultrasound because they no longer believe he ate something. He hasn't passed whatever is causing the blockage, and they fear it could be a tumor. It could also be a GI problem, but that's not the impression they are giving us. I'm completely heart broken. We wont know until later today what is going on.

Does anyone have any experience treating or caring for their dog with cancer? Obviously I know it's only going to end one way. Just curious if anyone can offer any advice. I've lucky that all of my previous pets lived to old age. This is going to hurt.

Oh no, I am so sorry he isn't feeling well. I hope it's not cancer. My only two experiences with cancer were with my greyhounds and the types of cancer they had couldn't be treated. Please let us know what the vet says.

Really, really hoping Bo is OK. Not all tumors are carcinogenic so let's all keep our fingers crossed for good news. Please keep us up to date. We will all be hoping for the best.

I'm so sorry about hearing this. Ask about doing an "EGD" esophagogastroduodenoscopy. It's done in humans as well as animals. It's a tube put down the mouth to the beginning of the duodenum. You're going to need a specialist to perform it and the tumor can be removed that way. It may be a polyp.
The dog is sedated of course for this procedure and there is little discomfort.
Please ask the vet about this.

Got terrible news. Bo has a mass blocking his GI. Surgery tomorrow and only 50/50 chance. We brought him home for the night to treat him like a king. We are wrecks.

Beauregard made it! We were prepared to loose him today, and all signs pointed to that. After a two hour surgery the doc removed golf ball size tumor blocking his intestine. They think they got it all out and will biopsy it, though she said it didn't appear to have spread. Now it's a matter of healing up.

We just called to check on him and the vet tech told us he would not eat the dog food, but she ended up feeding him her chicken that she brought for dinner and he scarfed it up. That's my Beagle. One more good night and Bo comes home.

Bo comes home today. I pick him up after work. A hefty vet bill, but well worth getting my shadow back. He is one tough beagle. Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement.

My wife and I didn't think we'd ever bring him home again.
