So Beasley graduated from basic obedience class last night...That means that she now behaves perfectly at all times, right???

Kind of funny story, we were each supposed to pick a trick to do in front of the class. We chose to do Handshake since it's fairly easy. Well, we worked all week on shake, and Beasley just wasn't getting it. She always seemed like she was on the edge of doing it, but for some reason she wouldn't go for it. I practiced everynight for the whole week and no luck.

So when they called on us at class, I wasn't too excited. She was never very good in class because of all the distraction. Even the simple comands like sit weren't going so well.

I stood up, brought her to the middle of the ring and gave her the sit command. Boom, she went straight down. Then I showed her my hand and said shake, and her paw shot straight up into my hand...Who would've thought...Everyone was so impressed and gave her an ovation. Of course, I haven't been able to get her to shake since class either...it's kind of funny.

Here are some graduation pics:

Congratulation!
Keep it up!
Charlie had gone through 2 training classes at Petsmart. Well....now he is going through private training because of behavioral problem. All because I let it all slide and didn't keep up. Beagles are kind of stubborn, although they know their tricks and command but they tends not to do, and only do it when pleased. And I'm not firm enough, humanized him too much.

Chloe never went through any training, except for what I taught her.... so....

What do they teach on puppy obedience classes?
In basic class we did Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Leave it, Loose Leash Walking (yeah right) and a few behavioral things, like staying still while someone comes to pet them and things like that.

I like the class because not only is it training Beasley, but it also teaches me and my GF how to take care of the Beas better.

I had gone through a training course with my previous beagle, but decided to do it again because it also provides a great opportunity for Beasley to get some time to get socailized with other dogs and people.

Congratulations to you and Beasley! When Maggie took the advanced class one of the things they were supposed to do was stay in a down position with a treat between their paws and not eat the treat. I laughed out loud when the instructor introduced that one. The last night was a contest to see which dog would go the longest. To everyone's amazement Maggie won. The other dogs either got up or ate the treat. Maggie can only do this one if she maintains eye contact with me. If she looks down she eats the treat.
