Hello everyone,

I just got an email from the breeder that sold me Dodger, she has a little boy pup 14 weeks old that she wants to sell me but this is sorta hilarious he has an overbite and she has a sale price of 600 dollars yeah right. I can find a beagle pup with no issues at a lower price… does anyone one else think this ridiculous? I looked up the cost of corrective surgery on these overbites in beagles pups, she told me 600- 900 dollars, try 3,000 and up it effect the palate it’s painful, they have to correct their jaws sometimes, and when she sold me Dodger he was only 400 think she forgot that. What do you guys think?
And I I have a question about something Dodger has done twice I am shocked and have no idea what to do? Or why he’s doing this I think it might be me 😩. You see I can kennel Dodger when go to the doctors and that can take 4 hours or more and he’s okay, but a week ago when I was asleep he wakes up in the middle of the night whining to go out and I hushed him and about 2 days later he wouldn’t kennel sure enough he pooped in his kennel he has never never done that, so I cleaned it up, then just the other Day I was late taking him out he’s whining, and so he goes pees behind his kennel in the house, now he just turned 3. Where is this behavior coming from? He kennels fine for hours when I am out but does this when I am home? and he won’t eat unless I am in the room also, he follows me every he’s my shadow, I have no idea what’s going on with him? Help🥹

Maybe Dodger has a bug and simply isn’t feeling very well. Buddy occasionally acts abnormal for a few days and then returns to normal. I assume his routine is the same otherwise.

That is a crazy price for the beagle with the over bite!

I hope Dodger is feeling better. If he keeps acting "off" you might want to get him a check up.

Our local rescues charge about $350 for a pup, so $600 may not be outrageous from a breeder depending on the area (higher cost areas will charge more b/c costs to breed and whelp a litter), quality of parentage and what comes with that price. For example, I paid quite a bit for Molly - she is purebred, champion parents (her ancestry in some lines goes back to 1862), registered with AKC, micro-chipped, full DNA analysis of both parents (many do sire only), her own DNA analysis (17 pages, both sides), vaccine nomograph of her dam, puppy vaccines, litter trained, socialized to dogs, humans, sounds etc, lifetime support from the breeder and the breeder will take her if anything ever happens to me-all that was included in the price. In contrast, I payed a minimum amount for Ally but after she passed out on the floor, a trip to the vet revealed severe pneumonia. Her treatment - 22 years ago - cost me what I recently paid for Molly. I'm a bit concerned that your breeder so underestimated the cost of treatment for the overbite esp when info is available. Check out what other breeders in the same area are charging.

So sad to hear about the relapse with Dodger. I'm a nervous nellie, I'd take him to the vet to rule out health issues first. I have read that sometimes when they hit that age, they temporarily forget potty training. Not wanting to eat unless you are there sounds like separation anxiety. In the info packet from my breeder, the years between 1-4 years have the potential for a renewed testing for leadership to re-establish "pack order" and you may need to remind him you're in charge if there is no medical reason.

I got my beagle back in 2006 for $200, and I thought that was a lot back then haha. I googled the inflation rate since then, and apparently a dollar back then is equivalent to $1.49 today. So theoretically I would have paid $300 today? This is all just very theoretical, though, as I think breeders have been put under greater and greater pressures recently, and it reflects in the price.
