Average litter size is 5-6 pups.
In the dim and distant past I had one litter of 10 pups with 9 surviving.
The same bitch then had a litter of 11 pups and they all lived.
Her daughter then had a litter of 7 pups.
All were born naturally.

Our first two beagles, Bilbo and Spotty, both gave birth to 6 healthy pups. Even 6 were too much for Spotty, she left half the feeding to us. Up every two hours to feed with the bottle. Bilbo however, was a wonderful mum and fed her 6. These were not planned, local Casonovas were to blame. Please get your bitches spayed to avoid unwanted litters.

Mine were planned litters from show quality bitches.
The litter of 11 was very hard work as I had to help Mum with the feeding.
Those days are long gone and my lot are now Rescue Hounds and are Neutered.

We just had a litter of 7 from Maya and a litter of 6 from Sulli. Both deliveries planned and with no unexpected issues. Both delivered naturally and took care of the whole process themselves. No help needed for feeding either.

Maya's past litters were 5 in first litter, 4 in the second.

We use Tate (our stud) for other people and the average litter is 6 but he has one as large as 8.

I would not class it as normal but it is not probably really unusual either. If the breeder wanted her as a Brood Bitch she would not have been suitable so I expect that is why they retired her.

is it like som way to carry on a champion line or something?
A bitch kept on for breeding purposes.
If the Bitch had finished a good showing career and carried the lines the breeder wanted to continue with she would be bred from and a puppy /puppies kept from the mating to continue that line.
