JUPITER, Fla. - A Jupiter animal hospital is caring for seven dogs that were found in a recycling bin next to a Dumpster in Lake Park.

The beagle mother and her six puppies arrived at the Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary and Hospital on Thursday after a Good Samaritan found them abandoned and brought them in.

Veterinarians believe the mother was infected with the parvovirus, which infects the intestines, and that the puppies may have been exposed.

The mother is in stable condition, but veterinarians will continue to monitor her.

As for the week-old puppies, they are being kept in an incubator and have been given antibiotics. They are being fed and hydrated around the clock.

Caring for the dogs will cost about $2,000. That's a high price for the hospital, which has lost 70 percent of its donations this year.

To keep going and treat all these animals that really need our help, we just need the donations and the help from the community, hospital manager Taylor Roca said. The community has always wrapped their arms around us and been a big help, but in order to help dogs like our mom and puppies and to help our other animals that really need us, we have to continue to thrive on donations.

If the puppies make a full recovery, they will be available for adoption in a few months.

If you would like to donate to help save these animals lives please contact: SAFE HARBOR (561) 747-1598 or you can send a check to:
