Some of you may remember from my intro that Shiloh and I visit at a local nursing home - we did yesterday afternoon. For some reason, when one of the residents there mentioned that there had been alot of people there at the n.h. sick from the flu - I didn't immediately turn around and walk out the door with Shiloh - but we did leave earlier than usual. No one sick here - yet but a little earlier this evening, when I was talking to my sis on the phone - she told me that she was sent home from her teaching job because of flu symptoms (this is real encouraging to me - NOT!) Yes, the flu is making it's rounds in our area, big-time. So, any information would be greatly appreciated about dog flu - I know how to deal with it for me. Can they get it from humans? There was something about this a few months ago on my therapy dog listserv but I can't remember now what the discussion said. Any info is appreciated.

Here's a link to a list of zoonotic diseases (ones shared by humans and animals). There's some info about influenza on the list, though it doesn't list dogs as being one of the animals that gets it. I've never heard a case of a dog getting the flu, but this may give you some further insight.

btw-Good for you and Shiloh for bringing some life and happiness to the n.h. residents. That's a very kind thing you do.
