Anal Gland Question

What does the anal gland discharge look like?
Can it be kind of goopy (like clear snot) and/or have a yellow tint to it?

Does it smell like butt?

We were sitting on the couch watching NCIS when Abby got up and twirled herself around and I felt a wet spot on the couch and noticed another one that she started licking at. They stunk horribly!

I looked to see where it came from and I couldn't tell. Neither part looks infected, irritated, or anything else.

Should I call her vet tomorrow? She's acting fine, and has been fine all day today. Though she did seem uneasy right after this happened.

It got on my arm and on my leg, I've already taken a shower and it still smells
I read online that alcohol will help remove the smell so I'm going to try that. Luckily we had a couch cover on and that's in the washer now.

Her area still smells too.

And no, she hasn't been scooting, licking her butt incessantly.

Smells like dead rotting fish. Vinny gets a squeeze once a month. I REFUSE to do it.

You know SW, I don't know why this topic is not discussed in Beagle books. I can only surmise, it may be because a small % are affected and it does happen to most all small breed dogs according to my vet.

It can be eliminated by having the glands removed, for $400 bucks. It is a cruel joke played on us by mother nature because when the galnds are removed, everything that went in the glands now is discharged out the back shoot.
my friends daschunds have to have it expressed all the time too. Its common, not a big deal.

Defintiely sounds like anal glands. I really feel rediculous going around sniffing their (4 beags) behinds (to find out which one)and then trying to sniff to locate the area the stuff got on. FYI, anal glands purpose is to scent their stools, kinda like marking, as I understand it. I'ts like an ancient thing from when they were wild etc. Ahhhh the things we suffer through for our babies.....glad it can be discussed here among us chidren of the beags! I don't think yu have anything to worry about, and yes, it can happen again.
