/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/th_scared.gif So yesterday I was such a wonderful day here in N.Y I though after our family lunchin I would take the boys over to our local park for a nice /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/gaah.gif walk on the dog trail. Boy was that a bad move. As soon as I took the boys out of the truck the park ranger was right up our buts. He was telling me to keep the boys off the play ground and out of the pinic area. (As if I could not read the hudge posting they had there!) So we started our walk and Rusty had to take a pee pee. Right away the ranger was all over us. He was telling us that was not aloud. ( What was poor Rusty to do? Hold it till we got home?) So we walked on! Then Henry had to go pee. Here comes that /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thsmiley_fistshake.gif dumb park ranger again. He tells me the same thing. This is no aloud! So whats poor Henry to do? Hold it as well? By this time I was so mad /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif I started back to the truck. As we started back to the truck he told me that we are not to come back. That we were not so to say playing by the rules.(WHAT RULES?)I seen the sighns. We read what they said. All they did was pee. What would of happened if one of them had to go /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/congrats.gif poop? It's not like I would not have cleaned it up! Anyway this park belong to the people of the town that I live in and tax payers money helps take care of it. If my taxes goes to helping out this park I want no part of it! Is the park for the people and there kids as well as dogs? Or is it to look at and keep pretty? I feel that we were singled out because we were the only family there with our dogs. Rusty, Henry and I will never be going back and my local town hall will be hearing about this! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/exactly.gif

Park Ranger must be on a power trip and letting it get to his head. I guess you and Miley's owners will have to move to dog friendly state /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/greendevil.gif

That sucks. We live right down the street from the University's agricultural fields (which are massive because we're in the biggest ag area in the nation). We walk ours around there all the time and there are tons of other people that do the same. Many walking trails around town have doggie stations with bags and trash recepticles for their mess and it's just a really dog friendy area.

I hope you do take this further, you and your dogs should not have been treated that way.

Sorry that the park ranger spoiled your day like that. We are very fortunate. Our parks are very pet friendly and even have "Paw Playgrounds" just for the dogs. Even just walking around or having a picnic at one of the shelters, dogs are more than welcome (on leash and well behaved, of course). As long as the park rules state that dogs are aloud and you weren't violating any of the rules I'd definitely be complaining.

Thanks guys for all your great feed back. I talk to my local town hall about this yesterday. They said somebody would contact me back in the next few days. If they don't I will be going down there and putting in a formal complant. I really do not think that it is at all fair that there are people walking there dogs there everyday and they don't even bother to clean up there mess that there dag has left. All my dogs did was pee and we got kicked out!
I was thinking about doing my hound walk for pennies at this park and now I have so changed my mind. I really don't think we will ever go back. I'm now looking for a new place to take them.

From one Henry's mom to another... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/PuppyEyes.gif

I would go online and check the county rules on the public parks and maybe even make a copy. I would return to the park (after I've had my coffee of course /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/heart.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/lol2.gif) and read the posted park rules to make sure that dogs are allowed. I would have my plastic baggies ready.

And if that park ranger returned and gives me a hard time, I would show him the rules and ask him why he was singling me and my dogs out. I would not raise my voice and I would not be disrespectful. If things did not de-escalate at that point, I would get his name and file a complaint at once.

This guy may already have complaints filed against him because he is consistently picking on (responsible) dog owners. You never know if yours is the only voice on this subject.

Good luck and let us know what happens. I hate to see Rusty and Henry not be able to return to the park.

Hi Denise, Hi Henry,
Well see we have been to this park before. It's not the first time. The rules have always been the same. No dogs in the picnic area or on the play ground unless other wise stated. We always take our doggie bags with us just in case. We always stay on the dog trail. The reson I had called my local town hall was to get a copie of the park rules so just maybe if we had tried to go back I would have them with me to show this oh so nice park ranger. (Why he was singleing us out I have no idea.) Here's the kicker nobody from the town wants to call us back.
You gave me some really great ideas Denise. I have some really great questions that I'm going to be asking if and when they do call back. Thanks so much for your input and all your help. It's a really nice park and I would so love for Rusty and Henry to be able to go back. I also really wanted to do my walk for pennies there to.(All the pennies were being donated to a rescue beagle program.) I guess we just have to wait and see what happens. Thanks again. I'll keep you updated.

Lorie,

For what it's worth...even if you decide not to return to that park, I would still do the penny walk for the beagle rescue. No reason to let an obnoxious park ranger deny even a few extra pennies to beetles in need.

I hope that this gets resolved so that Henry and Rusty can go back to the park...maybe a personal visit to the town hall wouldn't hurt.

Awwwww! Denise you have been so wonderful. Your helpful hints have been great. If we can't use the park we will be looking for another spot. I was thinking if I don't here back from the town by Friday I will be making a personal visit down there.
Thanks so much and tail wags to you and yours with lots of beagle licks.

P.S. Beetles in need. I love it!!

I think your complaint should include the following:

"My dogs got kicked out of the park for peeing in the grass on a DOG TRAIL. Are you KIDDING me?"

/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/icon_idea.gif That really is a great complaint. It's short sweet and to the point. Needless to say the town has not yet returned my phone call. So on Friday we will be heading down there. Dogs and all. Do you mind if I steal your complaint line?
