Has anyone ever heard of Lupoid Onychodystrophy, or 20 nail disease....My Bailey's nails are comeing off and it is painful to her.....I have taken her to the Vet and She said that it is an Autoimune Disease......She put her on a 25mg dose of Prednisone for 4 days and then every other day for 10 days....That was the day before Hurricane Ike....I took her back yesterday and Vet gave me Omega 3 plus vitamins as a supliment so her nails would come back better and not be so brittle.....I read that this Disease will take about 3 months to loose all her nails.... She licks and licks her nails....The nails are curling up with new ones coming in....So far she has lost 3....The first one I thought that she has got it hung on something...just the pulp was hanging out,,,I saw the second one the day before Ike hit and that was a red flag to me........Has anyone ever heard of this.....Ive read and read ,seems to be more of a Greyhound thing.....

I only just heard of this the other day -- my neighbor's pug was just diagnosed with the same thing. I did a little reading about it and everything I found mentioned treatment with tetracyline, fatty acids (which would be the Omega 30 and B3 vitamin supplements. It sounds like it does go into remission but some treatment is needed long-term.
