Default Words of comfort

HEAVEN'S DOGGY-DOOR

My best friend closed his eyes last
night, As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.

The thoughts that scurried through
my head, As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.

Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.

But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a 'doggy-door"!

Oh this made me cry since I just put down my mini dachshund in early January for back problems that left him unable to stand or anything else, but it's good to be reminded that he's no longer in pain and in a better place.

That one made me a bit teary eyed. It's been just over three years since I lost Amber and I still cry over her. That's a great poem though. I'll be snagging it for my collection.

I can't take credit for these beautiful words. It was given to me when I lost a beloved pet. I never knew who wrote it so I did some research on the web. The author is Jan Cooper.

If not for the impression they leave behind in our hearts, we'd never seek another dog. The love our dogs have for us is so overwhelming that we can't hardly go on without another. It's never a replacement, just a bit of sanity returned to us.
