Default RIP Old Daisy

Hello everyone,

I am very sad to tell that Daisy was put to sleep yesterday. She was out doing her normal afternoon sniff around the yard when she wandered into the neighbor's yard. Her hearing is very poor and he didn't see her and accidentally backed over her. My neighbor was distraught and in tears when he told me.

I ran over to see her and Daisy got up and ran back to my house. She got inside and paced around the kitchen about before collapsing at the front door. She was struggling to breathe and couldn't stand up. We rushed her to the emergency vet where they told us she had no reflexes at all in her back legs. For those who have seen me post before then you know Daisy was struggling with IVDD already. Faced with thousands in vet bills for x-rays and surgeries, we made the painful decision to let her go. This has been very difficult for me as I had her since I was 9 years old and I am now 24. It was an incredibly sad way to begin the holidays and it will take time to heal, but Daisy gave us a loving 15 and a half years. She was my best friend and there will certainly only be one beagle like her.

My sympathies, how terrible for you. It is very sad. I'm sure your neighbor feels awful too.

Thank you everyone for your kind words and thoughts. Yes it has been difficult and definitely put a damper on the holidays for the time being, but I am trying to focus on all the wonderful memories. I had her for a long time, longer than a lot of people have their pets for. I hate that it had to happen the way it did, but in retrospect, she suffered a very very short time compared to how good she had it most of her life. I will most certainly be getting another dog after some time, a good while for sure. But eventually, I intend to rescue another beagle, though already knowing there is no "another Daisy." She was truly one of a kind.
