Default Backpacking with beagles!

So Nebbers has backpacked a bunch before, and carried a pack. Xerxes has camped, but as Luc was quite decrepit last year (Xerxes's first year with us), has not backpacked.

Due to Toby's (and mine, but mostly Toby's) injuries, we are doing an easy-peasy backpacking trip Friday-Tuesday - our longest day will be around 7k (our last day) and we're staying at one campsite two nights in a row. It's an out and back in Killarney Provincial Park.

The campsite we're staying at two nights in a row is directly below a ridge/hill (the La Cloche Mountains are over 2 billion years old, they used to be taller than the Rockies, but, erosion and all that, they're BIG hills now) where there was a plane crash in 1994 that killed 6 people. We're going to try to bushwhack up to the peak on the day we have all day there! I've ALWAYS wanted to do this, but never done it before! So I'm super excited about that.

There's still some snow, and ice on the lakes, though it should be pulled back enough that getting water will be fine. Will be 3-5C at night so Xerxes will need to be managed, the wimp!

But he is going to carry a pack, for the first time. It should be good training for when we do harder trips for him. Certainly he's got boundless energy! Neb has carried packs before and is fine with them. We don't make them carry really heavy weight.

Does anyone else backpack with their beagles?

Enjoy! I backpacked in my 30s a little! We went up to Washington on the wet side of the Olympic Peninsula.

Oooh that'd be nice techie! I bet it was wet though! But gorgeous I've no doubt.

Cassie, heh. It really will be very relaxed. I'm hoping not too relaxed!

Cassie is totally a California Beag. She's a happy active dog only when the sun is shining. No sun... then she hunkers down in a bed. She didnt want to stay outside today. It was cool, dank, and drizzly so snoozing was high on her inside activity.

Sunny and warm today so Cassie has been happy to pack out to the yard...and watch the swarm of butterflies.

Xerxes would like Cassie to know she IS his kind of dog...he is abused up here in chilly Toronto! Bring on summer weather (heck, even spring weather)!

techie, it's funny, backpacking without dogs is simpler but they're so much fun to have along!

Cassie here...X you're my kinda guy. I could tell it was going to be nice today cuz mom took the covers off the patio furniture.
Picture this....us lounging together on the nice cushions watching the lizards, squirrels, birds, ....mom gives out treats periodically too.🐶
