We're hoping it's just that he's not gotten enough food. (The diet)

He hasn't really been losing weight, but he's not getting fed a lot and that could explain the lethargy. And him eating dirt like crazy when we go walking on trails. Cause that's outta control lately. We fed him more last night (despite my doubts) and this morning and he seems a bit perkier though that might be a coincidence. We'll keep it up and see if he keeps improving. If not, he has an appointment next Monday at the vet.

Maybe at 11 years old slimming way down is not worth the decrease in energy and nutrition. I would feed more to meet his needs.

Thanks!

Cassie, yes, we are feeding him more. He jumped up on Toby to go out this morning so that's a great sign of enthusiasm. I think he just wasn't getting enough to eat.

...I don't know how to slim him down now...

Try adding low sodium canned green beans. They add filler without calories. You guys get lots of exercise so maybe its muscle mass and not fat. Also check the fat of the food compared to the other ingredients. I would rather have a happy dog...lol

I'm just concerned he needs the calories. He is sort of sub-hypothyroid - the vet said as long as he lost weight we didn't need to treat - he'd lost like 1lb - so maybe we need to consider that.

One pound is actually a lot if you calculate the percentage of the overall. Hey, I get excited every time I lose one pound...lol.
Slow loss is better so his body adjusts and adapts to the weight change.

Happy belated birthday Neb!!!

Sophie lost a little weight when we bought a tall cat tree - I think it's because she expends a lot of energy climbing it to steal their food!!!

Thanks ljas!

We feed the cats in the cat room (with a gate in the door with a little door that the cats (and Xerxes, but he's quite good about not doing so) can get through but Neb can't. The poop stays safe in there too sigh. Speaking of poop eating....
