Default Buddy at the Vet

So Buddy had a Vet visit Saturday. Nothing serious just the usual update on his vaccinations. He checked out just fine and weighed in at 24.9 pounds. They recommended and he received a shot for the dog flue. She said it is slowly working its way west and would be a good precaution. Other than that she suggested that he have, typically, a teeth cleaning. I guess I'll have to schedule one of those.

We also discussed whether I should be giving him any joint supplements since he had broken his right front leg years ago and tore the ACL in his left rear. She agreed since he does get walked quite a bit.

Overall he is doing just fine. The only issue was when I opened the door he decided he didn't want to go in and tried to run away.

Glad all is good with my Buddy. Did he get his butt shaved?😶
Cassie had to get the flu vac about 2yrs ago since her day camp required it. Apparently several dogs who were rescued from asia came into Los Angeles were found to have canine flu. It took an inital shot and 2wks later a second one. Now a year after they didnt require it and havent since. My camp facility is associated with a vet so if necessary they'll put out a message about it. It is a special version of the flu vac. So ask about that.
Oh...and last time Cassie went to the vet she trembled in the waiting area...so they seem to know.

Good job Buddy on the check up. Interesting about the dog flu shot.

Gooo Buddy! Glad it went well.

My guys have the flu shot for the flu that's more common in North America, but the flu that's coming over from Asia IS also in the US (there is some concern about dogs from the US bringing it to Canada). Is that the flu? We looked into getting the shots in the last couple of years when Luc was frail because people were always importing dogs with it and it would've likely killed Luc...but our vet felt as long as we were careful about where we took our dogs, they'd be okay (so if one of us did a trail race in a place where'd there'd been some cases, the dogs stayed home, ALL of the dogs).
(Edit: I should note at the time I don't believe there were any cases in Toronto, though there were in surrounding areas)

Is there something about certain kinds of glucosamine being better for dogs? Am I misremembering that?

Oddly enough, Sophie likes the vet's. Where else can she get into a baying contest with a Bassest, sniff a lot of cats, and smooch all of the vet techs - to say nothing of practicing her dramatic acting skills? (When they swab her with alcohol before drawing blood she complains loudly - but is more interested in sniffing than complaining when they do the actual draw)

I believe this is true about how quickly dogs absorb things...so worth discussing with your vet?
