It’s that time of year again—the weather is perfect for outdoor activities. It’s also time for nasty fleas and ticks to rear their heads and wreak havoc on you and your pets. What do you need to know this flea and tick season, and how can you help protect your furry family members best?
I have a flea and tick control shampoo at home just in case Rex suffers from these parasites. I have always been ready, as they say, "prevention is better than cure."
If "prevention" is your moto then either give your dog a monthly topical flea and tick treatment or oral rx. If your dog gets ticks it could cause lyme disease with long complications.
"Food grade" Diatomaceous earth powder kills fleas and ticks...you can apply it on a yard or if your dog gets fleas and ticks you can apply it to dog beds and places your dog sleeps. But again...prevention is the way to go.
I use Advantage II for medium size dogs.
If you're opposed to an actual flea and tick application or rx then I've read that "Geranium Rose" essential oil drops can be put on the dog's collar, not on the skin.
