Toby is jumping around, whining, trying to climb up on me to get at the bowl, but I made him sit first (we've done that with other pups before). As soon as his butt hit the ground he got a pat on the head and the bowl was placed down in front of him. Told the wife and kids that this is to be an "every single time" routine. So yesterday I had to work so I missed his lunch and dinner, but my wife and daughter took care of it. This morning my daughter goes to feed him and as soon as the food hit the bowl, he sat down right next to where the bowl goes to wait for her! LOL! They learn the important things so quickly! She made him stand up again and sit on command, we don't want any cheaters! Next week we'll maybe add in "down". We'll see how "sit" progresses.
Whoohoo, congratulations! My dog sits automatically since she's "an experienced 5yr old ". Lol

How old? We have the same crate and pen but they are separate. The crate is downstairs for bedtime and the pen is in my office upstairs.

Nancie
Nancie, Toby is ten weeks (DOB 12/22/2016). I think he's a mix as well. Looks waaaaay too brown to be a pure beagle I think. But he has that beagle howl/bay already when he gets put in the pen. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and get one of those doggy DNA tests at the pet store and find out what he's mixed with. Just want to wait a little longer since markings do change on beagles as they go from pup to "not-so pup" size.

Your dog may be a chocolate beagle. Beagles come in a variety of colors.

Enjoy every moment of the puppyness. They grow up WAAAY too fast. Seems like just yesterday mine were babies. Natty Boh will be 5 in June and Shelby will be 3 in September. I just don't know where the time went.

My advice for any puppy owner - Put in the time to properly train your puppy now. That work will provide you with the most wonderful dog. They are truly amazing.
