12 1/2 year old just diagnosed with diabetes

My husband and I are both diabetic --- type 2, and now we have proof that it runs in families, our oldest beagle just got his "D" papers.

So, we have options, injections at $40 a month; a dog food that helps to keep his blood sugars lower; and there are treats to give like pills to lower blood sugars. Food and treats have to come from vet; and so I am assuming they will be spendy. Add to that we have another beagle who is 5, and want to be able to keep them on the same food if possible. Vet says that our Cobi is healthier than most 12 year olds he sees, so he will be around for a while if we take care of him as well as we have.

Just wondering what your experiences with diabetic dogs is and if you can share those with us? Thanks,.
