Hi I'm new to the forum. I'm the mom of Daisey and Duke two beagles that were originally rescued from an animal shelter a few years ago and then from craigslist (by me and my then husband). Right now me and the beagles are living on a farm, and Daisey must be close to 10 (she was around 8 when we got her) and Duke is about 7.
Duke doesn't seem to have many health problems however Daisey does have her share. She seems to have her eyes going in slightly un-synced directions, and has cataracts forming. She also has mild to moderate arthritis. I was wondering if any of these things are breed specific to beagles or just the general effects of old age? Also if there is any home remedies for any of these - her vision seems to be getting worse year to year poor little girl (she's a smaller beagle) but I was wondering if anyone had ideas on the arthritis? The vet told me to give her an aspirin on her bad days, which sometimes helps. Any answers are greatly appreciated thanks. |

Welcome and thank you so much for giving Daisy and Duke a good home
![]() The eyesight problem happens to many breeds with age. Dogs can do very well with limited sight since they rely on thier noses the most. Daisy will let Duke help her too. There are a lot of thing that can help with arthritis pain. Baby aspirin definately helps. you can also get her on a joint supplement such as Cosequin. A good orthopedic bed can be helpful too.
