Exclamation Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Hi everyone!

My beagle, Bentley, has been having similar symptoms. He would vomit about 4-5 hours after he ate. Eventually while we were working with our vet to figure this out he refused to eat. We had to put him on IV for several days, then did a biopsy to find out more information.

The results were not conclusive, however our vet and the many specialists she spoke with decided to treat for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). He started a treatment of prednisone, but has since had to stop because of severe muscle wasting it caused, and high bile acids.

We are now using probiotics, metronitizole, and L-Glutamine (for about 1 week). He doesn't seem to be getting better, but we are hoping and praying that he does.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Suggestions? We are open to anything, we just want to find a solution for our Bentley.

Thanks in advance,

Carolyn

$165 later, after a yesterday vet visit, my other dog-Feist Chihuahua X has been diagnosed with "gastroenteritis due to dietary indiscretion!" My vet tech friend noticed on the weekend that she was looking too thin(bones were visible.) She weighs around 16 pounds and has a tall, thin, kind of small Whippet, large Italian Greyhound type build and I like to keep her slender. Anyway she had a fit and said I needed to feed her more. My neighbor started bringing her cooked liver, deli roast beef, etc. Tuesday night she started having vomiting and diarrhea and it continued into yesterday. The vet thinks I just started feeding her too much rich food and it triggered this. My neighbor also got her a "braided bully bone" by Red Barn on Monday and she ate half of it before I noticed it had the worse smell of any dog treat I've ever seen and I took it from her. I still think that was the cause. I see it gets 5 stars on internet reviews but it smelled like a dead carcass! Did you ever give your dog that brand or style of treat?

PS. Brigid is also on Flagyll like your dog. And she is on Reglan also. hey have her on a bland diet boiled rice or oatmeal, drained hamburger and low fat cottage cheese until symptoms resolved. She's not had any more vomiting and hasn't had a BM since 11am yesterday.

Celiac disease will show up with a biopsy. Food intolerances will not - and they can make dogs and humans very ill - or even kill them. Most of the time, if they have an intolerance, putting them on a diet of boiled rice, ground beef, and green beans will help the gut to heal.

It may not be what's wrong - but it may be worth a try.

About 2 years ago Puddles would vomit after every meal. Finally I took him to the vet, had lots of tests done and 400$ later the vet had no idea what was wrong. I switched his food and he hasn't vomited after eating again. Sometimes vets just irritate me, I spend all this money and not he, but I, was the one who figured out what was wrong with my dog.

Anyhow, sorry, not saying yours if food related but it wouldn't hurt to maybe try switching foods for a period of time and see if the vomiting stops. My dog doesn't do well on a lot of food, I assume it's probably because he is allergic to a lot of ingredients.

Really good information. All I can suggest is look at diet and vaccines. HUGS, hope all is easily solved.

Brigid Feist here. I'm already 100% better and so embarrassed! I've never been sick in my life except for an eye infection I caught from the stupid Beagle last year! I never had diarrhea or vomiting before either-not even as a little puppy with roundworms! This was a one time episode with me-the Feist is always fit as a fiddle! Love, Brigid HW Feist!
