I just took regular chicken breasts and boiled them in water and cut it up in cubes and stored it in the fridge and would take some out to give Lily while training she gobbled those up like there was no tomorrow.

Our puppy is actually picky about treats. She likes Wellness though (pretty much any of them) and freeze dried meats (chicken, etc.)

I agree with kath. When doing training, especially the harder training or something you realy want to show reward for use somethign very high prized like the chicken or hot dog. Just remember small pieces go a long way.

Also bagle bite hit it with the freeze dried treats. they are small bite sized and generally loved by the dogs.

I use a lot of junky treats. I cut them small and they are happy to do what it takes to get that little morsel.

I have also used cat kibble but not much as it can cause loose stool.

You could go to some company websites and ask for smamples to be sent to you also. And the high quality ones are usally a 100% garenteed so you can return them if not liked.

Agreed with the small pieces comments... A nickel sized frozen hot dog cut into 4's (I know that sounds stingy!)... did the trick for reinforcement. We also used/use all natural treats that come in what looks like a sausage-like package (Nature's Choice Brand maybe). Multiple flavors (beef, lamb, chicken, etc) can be cut up in tiny pieces or just broken off a bigger piece very easily. That was my favorite.

I use dehydrated Jerky strips, just snip it up with kitchen shears.

I have also been using those little hard cat treats made by whiskas for the "leave it" training since they are sturdy and do not crumble when I put a toe over it when the dogs have to have a sniff fest trying to get it. its worked very well they seem to be highly prized by my 2.

I use homemade liver cake, Ollie goes nuts for it and it's really cheap to make! Lots of recipes online, it also has the added bonus you know exactly whats in it, i cut it up into small chunks and freeze it so i can take it out when ineed it.

We also make our own jerky out of either venison or hamburger and then use the dehydrator so sometimes I will set aside some of the ground up meat and make jerky for her without any spices in it she really likes that too.
