Default Lick..Nibble..Bite..Ouch!!

Ratchet is teething and we expect him to chew on everything. He has a wide variety of toys to play with. The problem is he still bites and his teeth are very sharp. My cousin has a two year old that likes to play with Ratchet and I am just scared that I am going to hear a screaming cry, cause Ratchet got him good. His biggest problem is biting fingers, feet, and also grabbing pants and pulling on them. Is there anything I can rub on my skin or do to let him know he shouldn't chew on hands, or teach him not to bite hard. We gave him chew bones to hopefully dull his teeth, but he can only have them when we are watching him. Any advice?

If he nips at your hands you can let out a little "yelp" and do not give him any attention.
Replace your fingers (or whichever body part) with an acceptable chew toy right as this happens. We used to use the teething toys that you put in the freezer. We had several different kinds and they worked wonderfully with both Roscoe and Cole.
Nylabones are great as well.
You have to be consistent with this, everytime he nips do the same thing. It will take some time so patience is key, but it does get better and they do stop.

That's some good advice RosCole but I have to say that I know of many instances where people have had trouble with nylabones. I prefer to use rawhide.

More information about Beagle puppy biting can be found at my website:

We have never had a problem with Nylabones, in fact they are the only chew "toy" items that have not been destroyed in this house.

All chew "toy" items are given under supervision.
