How long should it take for her poops to start getting hard? We have had her 5-6 weeks now and not once has it been anything but soft, sometimes with a slight definition, but nothing would be be able to pick up. This last bag of food I finally started reading the labels and got her a good food (? Nature's Recipe). We were mixing her old food, Pedigree, with the new food for about a weekand half and switched to just Nature's Recipe a few days ago and its not anything different. We are coming to the end of the Nature's Recipe bag and I guess my real question is how long should I let it go before I start looking for another food. I'm considering Blue Buffalo as my next choice.
The first week we had her we took her to the vet and he took a stool sample and she was fine. Do you think we need to take her back to have some more tests ran? |

We were given nutro puppy max by the store, so assumed that's what she normally eats already. Will be switching to Chicken Soup for Puppy Lovers, but I doubt that'll fix the soft stool for our Hailey. I've been mixing carrots with the kibble with good results. Better results with frozen carrots as she's teething. When we mix with kibble, there's a bunch left in her bowl. I just recently added a little brown rice, and found canned pumkin which I think she loves as much/if not more then chicken

Blue Buffalo worked for our Roscoe (who had such bowel issues for the longest). Now he is great and the other dogs love it as well! We had gone through too many foods to find this out!
My only advice, use caution when switching foods, do it slowly b/c that is rough on normal dog stomachs, if your pup has a sensitive stomach not switching slowly will only make matters worse.

I know that seems like a long time but Roscoe had such a terrible time we wanted to play it safe.

We switched to Orijen which has helped Rocky, but I'm not sure they make a version for puppies. I've been told canned pumpkin (regular, not pie filling) helps with their stools as well. We've gave that to Rocky last time he was sick.

Just decided to puree, then turn it to ice cubes for Hailey. She loves her frozen carrots, but they don't digest well and you can see it in her stool. I mean, it's great that it's hard (easy to pick up), but I caught her eating it.
Anyways...the puree mixture smelled sweet, and had the same texture as the canned pumpkin. Definitely a lot cheaper, plus I know I made it...and it didn't come from a can. She seems to like the carrots just as much as pumpkin. Will update after a few potty's |
