About the whole "pack leader" deal, there's been many studies that have been conducted on the topic and the majority of them have proven this concept false. Since most wolf packs previously studied were "forced packs" in zoos or preservation areas, observers were only perceiving something they could only explain has a hierarchy with a dominant alpha. With further studies of wild, naturally born wolf packs, scientists have discovered that wolves do not have a pack with an alpha, but a family with a mother and father. These new findings are suggesting that dogs aren't "pack" animals, but family animals. With this new shed light, maybe we should be treating our dogs like children that we need to teach and lead rather than a beta wolf that needs to know it's place.
