That's good he is more comfortable until he can see the doctor. I always feel so bad when mine are itchy or uncomfortable.

Update from the vet:

Spud was diagnosed with a minor fungal infection that could've gone worse if went untreated. We were given a spray, soap, and shampoo that were for the fungi.

So glad that you got a diagnosis and are treating the fungus. For future reference, if you suspect a fungal infection and can't get to the vet - use apple cider vinegar. I keep some in a small spray bottle. It is great. Even works on human athlete's foot.
