We have a five year old beagle, Casie. Casie came to us from a breeder who is also a show dog breeder. Casie has always had a pack around him, never been without another dog. Our older dog is 12 and a half....he has numerous health problems, and we are wondering what to do about Casie when and if we have to send Cobi over the Rainbow Bridge. When Cobi goes somewhere alone, Casie cries, runs from window to window looking for him. Over the course of time, with Cobi's deterrioration, Casie has become his dog caretaker. So our dilmena is this, when and if Cobi passes, do we get another dog for a pack of two. We could handle it financially, probably emotionally, but we are 61 and 63, there are few beagles in our area, and our humane society is filled with pits, who scare me, and large hunting dogs. Their idea and my idea of a beagle is very different. So do we not look for another pup or even young adult, or leave Casie on his own? Anyone have experience with this? Our inclination is to wait and see how Casie handles it, but, we don't want to rush out and get another dog just because Casie "needs" a bud. What do you think?

Cobi is a 12 1/2 year old nuetuered boy. He is priceless in my mind and heart. Since he has been 10 years old he has been growing moles, skin tags and now fatty bumps on his stomach. We had them tested and they are fatty growths, we had one taken off because it looked like dried tapioca. He has arthritis in his back legs, so we built him steps to get up on the bed. He eats, sleeps, pees, and poos and if full of energy for an "old man" can keep up with his brother who is only 5. He has one growth on his stomach that is a fatty mass, benign, but now has three little bumps on it the size of my pinky nail. They were brownish black, like a blood blister. He jumped up on his step ladder and missed and fell off, and popped two of them, there was blood on the blanket he sleeps on, and then other popped from his brother licking it. Has anyone else had this happen with the blood pockets?Although he is still a very active dog, we know that we won't have him forever. We've been through this before with out first beagle as far as Rainbow Bridge, etc., but if this is just part of the fatty deposit, then I will quick looking for the angel of good dogs. We love him more than I can tell, you, but don't want that to cloud our judgement on his welfare either.Any ideas on this newest growth?

Good Afternoon All!
We adopted a beagle a couple of years ago. Everything was great and she was a little over weight but not bad. We have been told she is between 6 to 7 years old. We moved to our house in September and we have live oak trees in our back yard. She and my other dog love the acorns from these trees! We have tried racking and taking them away but they still eat them. She had regular bowel movements and runs around just fine. The thing is she had gained alot of weight since moving to this house. We feed her the same Lean dog formula (1 cup twice a day), but she is still chucky. could it be possible the acorns are making her fat? I've never owned dogs before until her so I am in the dark about older beagles to if that is natural or if we need to change her diet to something else.

thank you in advance for any advice about my baby!

When it thunders she gets very skittish and shakes and pees on the floor. She went in her crate today which she never does. She always lets us know when she needs to go out but during a storm she loses it. Any suggestions of how to help her stay calm. I can hold her when I am here but I am not here all the time.

Summer is just around the corner, so PetGuide.com has put together some important car safety tips to remember if you're travelling with your dog.

Quote:

Woo hoo! It’s time for a road trip! To a dog, every time she takes a trip in the car, it’s an adventure. Even though it’s super fun for your pooch, there are precautions to take when you pull out of the driveway. Let’s go over a few mistakes you may be making when it comes to dog car safety. Take notes – there will be a quiz later!

1. You let your dog roam the car freely. You never buckle up your pup. He goes from the back seat, to your lap, over to the passenger seat to look at what’s going on outside. Not only is this a huge distraction, but what happens when you have to hit the brakes unexpectedly? Your dog can be hurt or can hurt someone else in the car. According to Barkbuckleup.com, a 60-lb dog traveling at 35 mph can turn into a 2,700 pound projectile during an accident. There are lots of products on the market that can help keep your dog safe, such as a pet barrier, a secured cage, harnesses and restraints, seatbelt attachments and booster seats.

2. You leave your dog in the car while you run errands. No matter what the season, it’s never a good idea to leave a dog unattended in a vehicle. It leaves her vulnerable to thieves and there’s a chance she becomes anxious and starts tearing apart your sweet ride. Or, she escapes on her own and wanders off (remember the IKEA monkey?) And, of course, there’s heat stroke. You hear about tragic cases of dogs that have died as a result of being left in a car during a hot summer day. Even if you open the window a bit, that’s still not enough to keep your car cool. In a matter of minutes, the temperature in a car can rise 20 degrees. So the next time you run to the store, leave your dog at home.

Hello,

Our family just rescued a beagle from the pound. She is estimated to be 4 years old. She is fully trained (as well as stubborn beagles can be). We have another dog and they get along great, however the older dog is no match for the energy of the beagle.

Sadly the beagle is around 28lbs, (on the fat side). We have been walking her alot but the weight isnt coming off.

We had a test of who was alpha while feeding her. She got put on her back after she bit me. Now i can grab food from her without issue.

She also has an anal gland problem  where some nasty smelling release comes out of her at times. My wife held the beagle a few times and was marked. I laughed but she wasnt too happy :giggle:

Enough with the cons, the pros are much better.

As mentioned fully trained: Sit, stay, no, speak (not sure if this is a good one), come, fetch, and even lick (my kids taught her that one)

She is a quiet beagle (except when getting her food). People come over to our house and no noise at all.

No issues with young kids, even when they accidently grab her paws.

Overall, a wonderful addition, and soon as we fix the weight and anal glands, will be the perfect beagle

How to crate train a puppy.

I know that searching about crate training a puppy is simple but it seems i have lots of disabilities when it comes to it. My beagle puppy is 9 weeks old, should i crate train him in this early age?

Anyway, i have a busy schedule. I live in jakarta and so far i haven't found any trainer. I go to school at 6.30 AM and usually goes home at 5 PM. I do not have a backyard, but i do have a front yard that isn't safe for him as there are a lot of cats and gigantic rats in the city and my car park is just beside it so he can have a risk of getting you-know-what. I have a lot of schoolwork and some days i even don't have time for him. He is my first dog.

Now about him. Well, as a puppy he really likes to bite people and i currently have no difficulties in training him not to bite. I put him in his crate at night but He whines. I read that i shouldn't give him any attention when he barks but i have no idea on how to differentiate the whining for freedom, boredom, or attention and if he wants to go potty. He quite hate his crate and i also read that to make him like it, he musn't soil his crate but again i have no idea whether he whines for attention or for potty time.

So my problem is only with the crate training. He sometimes can sit when i told him to. Am i doing this all wrong? Is this too early for his age? If it is wrong, how can i fix it? making my schedule less busy is impossible to make. I hope one of you people can answer.

I reeeally love him but its kinda hard to sleep with all the whining and i don't want to suffer for his own safety:)

She usually has been good to go in the crate but tonight when I said crate she actually slammed the crate door shut twice...I mean really? She's ignoring my commands and goes in the opposite direction. ... she has to check out my treat before she will respond to me and soooo much more...

Cassie here...just give me the keys to the crate and let me stay out 'til midnight to hunt down the moths and crickets, and I'll pee and poop when I darn feel like it!!:bounce:

HELP! I have a 3 month old beagle puppy who won't stop pooping in her crate. I was thinking it was due to stress because we would go outside literally right before bed time and I would make sure she empties her bladder and has pooped and everything but she will still poop in her house. The thing is, she is no longer upset when I put her in her house. I always make sure she is good and tired before i put her in her house so she just goes right in and lays down. No more cying. Which would make me feel like we are making progress if she werent pooping in her house every night. And it's not that she is just pooping, she is laying in it... she has a dog bed in there that she loves and she poops on it and then lays in it. We have been doing this(crate training) for a little over a week and im already so exhausted. My dachshund was wayyyyy easier to crate and potty train than she is and they're supposed to be one of the most stuborn breeds. My dachshund pooped in her house like two times in the beggining when we were crate training her but that was it. I read that they should be able to hold it through the night at the age of 3 months. And it's not just at night. It's while im at work or pretty much every time she is in there. Weither that is two hours or 6.

Now, I was home today with my husband so we put her in her house so we could take a nap. She cried for maybe a minute and then layed down and went to sleep. When I woke up an hour and a half later i let Lucy out and she hadnt soiled it so we praised her a TON. Then later on tonight we went to the store. We were gone for 45 minutes at the most. Came home and she was covered in poop. Had pooped in her bed and then layed in it. Im seriously banging my head against the wall. Any advice is wanted!

My 4 month old girl Ziva, managed to get into my cake tin and chomp her way through 4 rock cakes. Of Course raisins are toxic to dogs so as soon as I realised what she'd done I drove her straight to the vets. Ziva gets car sick, so thanks to my crazy fast driving and her getting travel sick she vomited en route.

My vet has admitted Ziva for charcoal and IV fluids overnight. She's not symptomatic and is eating and drinking well, although not passed urine yet... but she's a fuss-ass about where she pee's and will only do it on the gravel in our front garden. She'll go soon enough 😉
Please say a little prayer for my baby girl, we love her so much even though she's a greedy pig.
