Default Beagle Cold Resistance

When I first got Jayne, a lot of folks told me that beagles don't have much tolerance to cold, but she is the complete opposite. In the winter, it's hard to get her inside because she has so much fun in the snow while in the summer, it's hard to even get her up and moving.

What's your experience with beagles and weather? Are they happier when it's hot or cold?

They should be very tolerant to the cold. Never understand when I see beagles outing walking with coats on them

Around here with windchill the temp can be at -30 at the peak of winter, so I usually put Jayne's fleece on for when she goes outside so that it's not too cold for her. The way I see it is if I'm cold with two sweaters and a big fluffy coat on, she MUST be cold. It's a dignified fleece though, reversible camo/blaze orange, makes her easier to see in the woods, too.

Default Beagle Cold Resistance

Beagles are a hearty breed and can withstand cold. But I would prefer if they would be house pets. I'm not a fan of a tied/kennel or penned dog irregardless of the breed. My bumper sticker sums it up for me.

Mine wear sweaters especially if we have an agility class or travel.

My beags do much better with cool or cold weather than in the heat. It was in the 20's and gusting wind yesterday, they didn't care. Molly starts to shake a bit when she has had enough, I have never seen Vazzle act like she is cold. She has big old fat paws!

Yeah, I don't understand how people can allow their dogs to live completely outside, especially in a place like Wisconsin where it hits below freezing in the winter more often than not.

Rascal doesn't like being cold at all! This is why we got her a little coat for when it is cold here. Mostly we are just wet.

In Southern California it can get pretty hot during the summer.
Cassie had a kiddie pool to splash in, we kept the patio wet and played water games. Then brought her in during the hottest times. She could not tolerate a walk even in the early morning when it was hot. She came in during the warmest hours. We definitely don't have those really low temps...thank goodness

Today it's raining...Cassie gets totally screwed up on rainy days-as I am writing this she just came in and peed on the floor! What the...
